Microbiota decussata
Siberian Carpet Cypress
Description
A vigorous evergreen shrub with bright green, scale-like foliage that becomes coppery brown in winter. An adaptable conifer that provides excellent textural contrast to broad-leaved shrubs or perennials. Well-suited for use in rock gardens, as a specimen plant, or massed as an easy-care ground cover. Prefers moist, well-drained soils in a partially shaded site, but adaptable to poor dry soils and harsh sun and wind exposures. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Feed before new growth begins in spring. May be pruned occasionally to maintain size and a tidy appearance. Slowly reaches 2' tall and 8' wide. Tolerates full to part sun. Can be used for borders, hedges, poolsides, ground cover and hillsides.

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems. Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.
