Fernbush |
Delicate-looking plant but actually very cold-hardy. Tolerates heat except in the low desert. Fernbush will grow to about 5' tall and wide, although some specimens can grow to 8'. White, lilac-like blossoms in the summer can attract hummingbirds. Flowers appear in mid summer. Bees also attracted. Long lived, semi-evergreen, fragrant light green ferny foliage. Bark develops into flaky reddish. Full sun, well drained. Suffers in low desert summers. Evergreen in mild, deciduous in cold climates.

Replace turf with groundcovers, trees, and shrubs. If you have areas where no one uses the grass, patches that do not grow well, or a turf area too small to water without runoff, consider replacing the turf with water-efficient landscaping.
